SILVERPLATE
Silverplate was a secret project that modified B-29 bombers and trained crews to deliver atomic weapons during World War II. Drawing on military records, technical reports, aircraft histories, contemporary newspapers, photographs, correspondence, interviews, memoirs, and Robert A. Lewis’s unpublished journal, we reconstruct the project’s development, personnel, test flights, aircraft movements, and transition into the 509th Composite Group.
